Dr Ana Hilário is a marine biologist specializing in deep-sea ecosystems, with over 20 years of research experience. She holds a BSc in Aquatic Sciences (University of Porto, 2001) and a PhD in Ocean and Earth Science (University of Southampton, 2005). Her research focuses on biodiversity, life-history traits, and population connectivity in the deep sea, with over 45 peer-reviewed publications and numerous international presentations. She has led or co-led multiple international and national research projects, mentored early-stage researchers and PhD students, and has participated in 28 deep-sea expeditions across the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, and Antarctic Oceans. Dr Hilário currently serves as coordinator of the "Ecology and Conservation of Coastal and Deep-Sea Ecosystems" group at CESAM (University of Aveiro), where she is also involved in the Doctoral Programme in Marine Science. She holds leadership roles in EurOcean and the Portuguese Committee of SCOR.
